Tirthan Valley  derived its name from the Tirthan River, which winds its way through the valley. The pristine river originates from the icy cold glacial springs of Hanskund, a snow-capped peak in the verdant Great Himalayan National Park.

Tirthan Valley is unexplored trekking hub as it has various trekking & camping tours. There are lot of great trekking trails in the Great Himalayan national park which is a great trekking destination. Besides domestic crowd, it receives a huge number of foreign tourists every year.

 The best time  to visit Tirthan Valley is from May – October.

In winters the valley transforms itself into a winter paradise. Misty lanes and snow-clad terrain and woods with random green patches of vegetation on the banks of the Tirthan River is indeed a sight charming enough to please anyone.

If you want to build a snow man OR want to splash snow balls over the loved ones, then January – February is your kind of time.

If you want to explore the valley in moderately cold weather with snowy peaks then March – April can be considered a good time to visit.

Chandigarh – Mandi – Aut – Banjar – Gushaini

The total distance between Chandigarh to  tirthan valley is 270 km and it takes approx seven hours to reach by car. Its Located at a distance of 70 km from Kullu, 75 km from Mandi  & 105 km from Manali. From Mandi 38 kilometers towards Manali just before Aut Tunnel there is a road that goes along the river towards the small town of Larji.

To witness the serenity of Tirthan Valley drive through the lazy roads passing by the forests and unwind into tiny hamlets of Nagini, Ghushaini, Banjar and Shoja which are equally beautiful.

Hidden gems near by:

Being a getaway to the Great Himalayan National Park, Tirthan valley hide many other gems filled with beautiful lakes, rivers and lush greenery.

Jhibhi valley is another valley that is   located  adjacent to Tirthan Valley. It is beautiful, but not more beautiful than Tirthan Valley. However, you can take a day trip to Jhibhi Valley, spend some time taking a walk around the valley and spend serene time at one of the river-side cafes there.

Jalori Pass: The road through Banjar and ahead goes to Jalori pass which opens into Shimla valley from north.  This pass connects Shimla to Manali via Banjar Valley. Banjar doesn’t face heavy snowfall, so its open throughout the year.

Serolsar Lake: Another nearby beautiful destination is Serolsar temple located on the bank of Serolsar Lake, which is situated 6km from Jalori pass, is named after. Serloskar Lake is a small natural reservoir surrounded by lush green forest. It is a perfect angling spot for the anglers.  As wide as a generic football ground, located among the kharshoo trees at a height of 3140m above sea level, the lake offers a perfect getaway option for travellers looking for some refreshing break. The crystal clear waters surrounded by the spell bounding green forests & tall mountains are just a treat to watch for avid tourists.

Chehni Kothi : A towering 1,500-year old castle built with stone slabs and wooden beams. Built in the traditional style of architecture, Chehni Kothi is the tallest free-standing structure in the entire Western Himalayan region. It was once the residence of King Rana Dhadhia so also called as Dhadhia Kothi. It used to be 15 storeys high but after the earthquake of 1905, only 10 floors remain.

Shringi Rishi Temple: The Shringi Rishi Temple at nearby Bagi has a beautiful statue of Rishi Shringi and intricate wood carvings that depict the 24 different births of God. The locals of valley still live in a traditional way, maintaining their ancient customs and following the age-old rituals of the local temples.

Shangarh is another hidden treasure about 50 kilometers from Tirthan for which one has to travel through the quaint villages of Larji, Sainj, Neuli and Ropa. The untouched natural beauty of the Shangarh meadow capture the heart of every visitor.

 

You can enjoy various  activities in Tirthan Vallley. It is very popular among avid fish lovers as its home to ‘trout fish’ which is found in the Tirthan river. Camping and Rock climb is another adventure sport participated by avid travelers & tourists to fuel their adrenal rush.
